ITINERARY

The Itinerary may be changed to allow flexibility during the tour, but will generally be as follows.

Meals included in the package are denoted at the end of each day.

ZAGREB

Day 1
Arrival in Zagreb. A bus will collect you from the airport at a designated time and transfer you to our luxury hotel. We will all meet and have an orientation walk.

Dinner

Day 2
This morning we have an exclusive 2 hour guided walking tour of Zagreb. Highlights include : building facades reminiscent of Vienna and Budapest, landscaped park promenade, St Marks Church, Funicular Railway (built 1888) – connecting the lower and upper cities. After lunch, the remainder of the day free to enjoy cafes, galleries, museums, parks or photography/painting.

Day 3
Today we visit Plitvice lakes for the day. We spend the time walking through the national park enjoying the numerous waterfalls and lakes and the Autumn coloured beech trees of the forest. Back to Zagreb for dinner in a fine restaurant.

Day 4
The morning is painting and photography for those who wish. Remainder of the day free to enjoy cafes, galleries, museums, parks.

OPATIJA

Day 5
The morning is free. Our mini bus will transfer us from Zagreb to Opatija - about a two and a half hour journey. The bus will depart at midday and on our arrival we will check into the hotel, unpack, relax and have a short orientation walk.

Day 6
Today we stroll the coastal promenade past bay trees, palms, figs and oaks, behind which you can glimpse grand villas dating from the end of the 19th Century. We make our way to Volosko, a little fishing village. A lovely place to relax by the sea, have lunch and explore. Photograph, paint, sketch or have the rest of the day free to spend as you please.

Day 7
Following breakfast we take a bus trip through Tuscan-like landscape to Rovinj, where we explore this pretty fishing port town with its inclined narrow streets. Take the opportunity to shop, photograph or enjoy the varied views of the 13 islands of the Rovinj archipelago. There will be time to do some sketching for those who wish to. In the afternoon we return to Opatija via the town of Motovun. Here you can sample herbal brandies. Biska, a brandy made with a touch of mistletoe, is highly recommended. This area is also famous for it’s truffles. We have about an hour or two to explore and enjoy this captivating little town perched high on a hill with magnificent views.

Day 8
Our final day in Opatija is a free day to spend as you wish. Just relax in the beautiful 19th Century atmosphere of the town.

SPLIT

Day 9
A long drive today from Opatija to Split. We break the drive with a stop at the ancient city of Zadar, exploring the town and having lunch, then later stopping for a stroll around the quaint medieval town of Trogir (a UNESCO World Heritage site). On to Split and check-in to our lovely small hotel. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 10
After breakfast we have a fascinating 2 hour guided tour of Split and discover the rich history of this beautiful city. After lunch we meet to do some sketching and painting.

Day 11
A full free day to do as you wish. Maybe a day of photographing, painting, sketching or simply exploring.

Day 12
A free day to spend as you wish. Spend the morning exploring the colourful Split market or take a visit the Mestrovic Gallery to view this famous sculptor’s amazing works. You may wish to go shopping or walk to the top of the nearby hill for a majestic view over the city and sea.

HVAR

Day 13
The morning is free to do some last minute shopping or exploration in Split. At 2.00 pm we catch a Hydrofoil to our island paradise of Hvar. This is where we totally unwind and relax. A short orientation walk, then a chance to sit and have a drink while watching the people promenade along the waterfront. Tonight we dine at a good restaurant tucked away in one of the cobbled side streets.

Day 14
Guided tour of this traffic free town in the morning. We photograph, paint and/or sketch for the rest of the day, then climb to the ancient Fort above Hvar for a stunning view of the town and the islands as the sun sets. In the evening we dine at one of the many excellent restaurants.

Day 15
Today we explore some of the quaint villages of the island by private mini van. A chance to take photographs meander through the streets of the villages. We lunch at a quaint little Konoba (a family run restaurant) for a beautiful home grown meal in a lovely garden setting. This is a very special experience and a highlight for many.

Day 16
Today is your free day to spend as you wish. Maybe use the local buses to explore other parts of the island, shop or laze about in the sun. Soaking up the atmosphere, while having a drink under the umbrellas at cafés in the beautiful square is highly recommended.

DUBROVNIK

Day 17
We are transferred to the ferry terminal in the morning, where we catch a ferry to Split. We then drive along the stunning coast to Dubrovnik, arriving late in the afternoon.
Our modern 5-star hotel terraces down to the sea and looks due west to the setting sun, over small islands. Each room has its own terrace and views of the sea.
Dinner at the hotel, then for those who wish to, we take a short bus trip to the old city for a night walk. A walk on moonlit marble streets in this amazing town is a very special experience.

Day 18
In the morning we have a wonderful guided tour of the old city. Our guide is excellent and his love of Dubrovnik is contagious. Lunch at a restaurant in the old city. In the afternoon we take a leisurely walk on the fortified wall around the magical city (one of the highlights of the entire trip). The rest of the day is free to enjoy as you wish. Watching the sun set into the Adriatic, whilst sipping a drink on the hotel 'balcony' is highly recommended and a perfect end to the day.

Day 19
This morning we catch a ferry for the short ride to the nearest island of Lokrum. We relax and explore this pretty island,  visit the botanical gardens, explore the ruins of a Benedictine monastery, or for the more adventurous, visit the naturist beach. The afternoon is free and you may wish to ake the opportunity to catch the cable car up the mountain for a magnificent view over Dubrovnik. If you fancy a long, but incredible walk down the mountain it is worth it for the stunning views. Enjoy a relaxing evening listening to the live music and a drink at the hotel. In the evening we attend a classical concert in the old city.

Day 20 - Final Day
A free day to spend as you wish. Revisit some of your favourite places. In the evening we stroll to a nearby restaurant for a farewell dinner and to reflect on the trip and celebrate our memorable journey together.

Day 21 - Departure

Today you will be transferred to the Dubrovnik Airport for departure.
