Beyond the Ink | Painting

A$4,400.00

Artist: Charles Sluga
Medium: Watercolour and ink on Arches watercolour paper on high profile stretched canvas
Size: 75 × 91 cm

Painting Description

Known for their cognitive abilities and complex relationships with humans, as seen in My Octopus Teacher, this painting serves as my reminder of the need for greater awareness and respect for these incredible creatures.
The red colour palette I used emphasises urgency, carrying a message to
STOP and "Take Notice" of the octopus's significance. The black in the painting represents the ink the octopus releases when threatened. I chose a backdrop composed of pages from The Soul of the Octopus to reinforce the theme of the emotional and intellectual connection these creatures can form with us.

“We acknowledge the original custodians of these lands. The people of the rivers and the hills have walked these lands for thousands of years as well as today, and we pay respects to the elders of the past, present and emerging.”
